hi Carl, I am not sure about that, I wouldnt know why that ws necessary.
However I have had sweep problems that were caused by the -12v 141 frame PSU
being out of spec. These need to be set up according to the book in the
correct order as one acts as a reference for the others. The resistors used
in those days do seem to drift high, and may need replacing if the trim-pots
with not bring the supply into spec. The -12v rail acts as the reference for
the schmidt trigger that starts the sweep. First signs are sweep at fast
speed but no sweep at low speeds.
