Perhaps it was a bit cheaper.

Don't know. I'm not all that sure I've seen anything other than the standard
reference extension hardline section fitted. I suspect anything longer was for
ATE systems with complex fixturing.

Try rubber cement thinner (heptane) in a well ventilated area. It's very
flamable.
