[Test-Equipment] HP8410 system questions

1. I have a fairly complete HP8410 system.  One piece that is confusing me, 
though, is my 8745A s-parameter test set.  All the documentation I have 
mentions that the rear of the instrument has 2 RF connections for reference 
line extensions..."unless not equipped".   But I see no reference to a 
specific option that equips/unequips the rear reference extensions.  The 
real question is:  why would one not be so equipped?  Mine happens to be 
unequipped, and I'm wondering how I'm going to manage that.  Was that for 
test sets that were only intended for use with the transistor mounting 
fixtures 1660x?
2. I also have a 11604A Universal Extension (although without the rear 
reference line connections as above, I'm not sure of what use it is to 
me).  It came to me in the original plastic case, which is a 
bummer...because all of the foam is well-and-truly stuck to the 
Extension.  What is the best solvent to use to get that gunk off?
