I think it could work... I have a similar setup: 8558B + 180D... but there 
is a lateral connector in the spectrum analyzer plug-ins and I don't know 
if the 180A will have a matching connector. It is located at the upper 
left, in the middle between front panel and rear connector. I don't know 
its function but it should be present to get the SA plug-in working in the 
mainframe.
