Hi,
Here's an article from "Test and Measurement World" about Black Beauty
capacitor failure modes. He claims that one problem was that Sprague
didn't use acid-free paper as a dielectric:

The above article references audio amplifier distortion measurements
done by Cyril Bateman of electronics World magazine, where Bateman
tested various types of coupling capacitors. Unfortunately, the link
didn't work for me.
One link that did work shows a test for capacitor non-linearity
and the capacitor equivalent of hysteresis effect,
as done by Steve Bench:
