[Test-Equipment] telonic sm-2000?

Anyone ever hear of/use this sweeper? I have a radio that the manual specifies this unit to do the alignment. I was hoping I could do the alignment without having to acquire this item.

Could I accomplish the same results (getting a plot of the IF response) using more common gear?? I have a rf sweep generator (with sweep ramp output), a scope with XY mode.  Anyone suggest an inexpensive detector (without having to build one) I am interested in testing solid state and tube gear.

Does anyone know if the telonic had log output to drive the "Y" of the scope? Is this useful/necessary in sweeping filters etc? If so, could anyone recommend a way to convert to log output and detect in a simple way so I can use my sweeper and scope to get response plots?
