Ed,

The 8407A is a great network analyzer especially for
HF work, I have two of them, however the correct
sweeper to go with it is the 8601A, perhaps you
already know this. I'm not sure if the 8690 came with
a plugin that would work in the range of the 8407 and
give proper performance. 8690s seem to be far more
plentiful and cheaper than 8601s but keep your eye out
at the hamfests they can be had for cheap if your
lucky.
