Another possibility...  I have a 5244L counter (same basic unit but with
non-oven timebase and does not
take plug-ins).  I've had to replace the electrolytics in it and in other HP
gear of that era
that I have.  Seems that the 'lytics HP used back then (mid 60's) are all
failing and need replacement.
