[Test-Equipment] Aerovox Model 97

OK, guys, heres a strange one.....
I recently acquired a very nice Aerovox Model 97. I have done a complete 
electronic and mechanical refurb on her, since it didn't need much......
I did find that I can purchase a Manual and intend to do so soon. However, my 
question is:

what the heck is the 'probe' ???? Looks like a stethoscope. I'm sure it's 
just a coil of some sort, but what's it's purpose? To induce RF into a circuit? 
The RF Generator works just fine......
