Only handles nine wires at a pop, though, not 20, so would take two passes..

Subject: [Test-Equipment] Cable IDer
Does anyone know of a hardware device that will allow you to attach a
tone or digital ID sender at one end of a cable and that ID can be
picked up at the far end of the cable. Not a tone gen and amplifier,
this device would connect to say 20 wire ends at once and send a unique
code/Id down each wire to be read individually at the near end? We are
talking telecoms cable of 30 pairs of wire @ 30,000ft.
