[Test-Equipment] Tek 2712 Li battery #

The original "soldered in" Crystal Research Corporation #2736 battery in the
2710, is no longer being manufactured. I believe the 2712 used the same
battery.

I have tried a "home brew" replacement on my 2710 utilizing a CR2032 battery
in a holder. It is though, slightly smaller than the original and thus does
not have the same capacity. I hasn't worked out very well, as it doesn't
seem to hold up very long.

I understand there was a recommended modification available thru GTE
Service, which had been doing out of warranty work on the series, under
contract with Tek. I never was able to get any information about the
details of the mod other than it was rather costly, ($300 plus). I don't
know if GTE is still servicing them.

It may be that two CR2032's in parallel would provide enough capacity but I
haven't tried it yet. Physically that configuration will be a little tight,
to get it into the same space.

If anyone on the list has worked on this issue, or maybe for Tek/GTE, I
would also appreciate your inputs. I have enjoyed using my 2710 which I
bought new. It has served me well. I would like to settle this problem.
