The Omni VI arrived and here is a first impression:
The receiver shows very poor sensitivity. 40 meters, for example, gets no
signals at all and on 20 meters only two or three CW signals were heard. The
problem appears to be right on the front end as the RF gain control does
affect receiver noise, but the antenna does not. It is as if the antenna is
not connected, yet transmit SWR shows good.
My father DB9SA's VW Touran 2.0 TDI Diesel has some glow plug issue which
doesn't come up on the diagnostics as the engine starts upon the 10th
attempt. Thousands of Dollars have been wasted, no solution in sight. and
the garage destroyed the Black Box when it removed it. So one thing is out
of the question - an open ended hunt for fault in Servierville @ $ 60 an
hour.
Q: is the receiver on one board? Maybe TT sells this board?
Q: Have you tried contacting eBay? Piece of cake in the past. now they rely
on a clever loop which leads to a closed door named "enter your question
here", then nothing, nada. Maybe it's IP address based and American IP
adresses get better treatment?
Very cynical remark, the 100% feedback seller guaranteeing that the
transceiver "won't be DOA". Darn, but Fred KQ6Q has w a r n e d me.
Seems like it matters WHO you buy from as much as WHAT you buy. In that
sense, I'm pleased to accept Tom N4RS' offer and will buy his Omni V.
Closing, has anyone put in the INRAD filter mod? www.iNRAD.net
