Hello:
- I've discovered a $ 35 chip for the Omni V sold by N4PY. Any experience
with this virtual upgrade of a V to a VI? And is there anything else I
should be ordering from N4PY, like some software? Thanks to help here, I
have sorted the filters.
- There is a Paragon for sale on an auction website. It looks great and
comes with 7 days money back guarantee. There is a German saying "All good
things are 3", so after buying an Omni VI+ and V I now fancy the Paragon.
a) The PLL issues are well documented. b) is the Giehl chip still for sale?
c) Have you one for sale or seen one? d) Besides re-soldering the PLL board
and removing some coating from the board, does it work to "lock" the
frequency and thus avoid excessive drifting?
e) On eham.net the reviews are all over the place, from 0/5 to 5/5. One
owner of big bucks modern transceivers states the old Paragon does not sink
among the younger crowd. I can believe it - am using my father DB9SA's
Linhof view camera now and then and it's not all junk that was made in the
early 70s.
Closing, I keep hearing that the Paragon is world class in QSK. A friend can
copy 90 wpm, while I'm a bloody beginner and incapable of even recognizing a
4 or differentiating between a H and a 5 for example. 6 is another tough
call, as is Z or 7 but less frequently so. (G4FON, character speed 40 and
35, effective speed 5 and 8 wpm). So... any good ones for around $ 400?
