 Hi,

The Corsair II working properly is arguably the best analog CW rig ever made. I like it better than the 2) Omni 6+ I have especially on 10-meter CW where the O6 has numerous birds. With regard to the battery for the Paragon and P II. I change it about every 3 or 4 years. I just attach leads across the leads from my DC supply and replace the battery. If you don't you lose your memory settings and have to reset the time, no biggie. I seldome use the memories anyway except for the 60-meter channels and WWV plus a few SW freq's I use..
The Paragon II is a nice rig and I use them for MARS as well as casual SW listening. I much prefer the Corsair II for CW work.
I have 2 Paragon II's and paid too much for them. I got one for $1200 and the other one for $1100 both with most of the filters. I have seen them in the last year around $900 to $1000 on ePay.

Glenn WA4AOS

Subject: [TenTec] Paragon 2 Memory Battery Back-up

I have been having a lot of fun with my newly acquired Corsair 2. Consequently,
I have decided to look for a nice clean Paragon 2. I downloaded the manual for
them on the internet and it says the microprocessor has a power cell in it to
maintain memory for 10 years. Well those radios are now well over 10 years old.
The power cells must have died years ago.

How in the world do you maintain memory in a Paragon once the power cell in the
microprocessor has worn out? There is no external battery! Do you replace the
microprocessor and is it available and what do they cost? (Seems to me to be a
problematic design). Is it possible to hang an outboard power source onto the
microprocessor once it's internal power source fails? If so, how is this done?
(Just to be safe, I checked the schematic around the microprocessor and as
suspected, I find no external battery on the diagram).

I sure would like to hear from those more knowledgeable then me on this topic.
This has me concerned and I have not, to date, found a Paragon 2 to purchase. I
would suspect there is some easy remedy for this problem, or at least, it is my
hope there is a simple solution available.

Thanks for reading this.
