Thanks again for your help Howie. Now I at least know what to look for.
The problem appears to be in the transceiver. I'll have to do some more
troubleshooting after the contest weekend. I'll use my Elecraft K2 in the
QRP category. It talks to CT on my WinBook Z1 via the serial port -- no need
to use an external level converter.
I see that the address code 64 is also claimed by the Icom Pro II as its
default. These are hexadecimal codes so values of 00 through FF should be
allowed, but the Ten-Tec Argonaut II seems to set only decimal code values
0-9 in those rightmost character positions. Interesting.
