This protective design is used by most of the modern (solid state)
Yae-Com-Wood transceivers, but not the Ten-Tec rigs I've used (Triton IV,
Omni Digital, Omni V). TT's design lets the PA deliver full power into up to
a 3:1 VSWR load -- no fold back. The protection is provided by a fast-acting
breaker that removes power if the finals draw too much current.
There is a potential problem here if you're not careful. The Ten-Tec power
supplies have the breaker built in. If you use some other brand of power
supply or a battery you should purchase the separate breaker from Ten-Tec
and install it in series with the B+ lead. If you don't you could toast some
finals.
