[TenTec] Question for the list

Dave,
Do you have an oscilloscope? I had a problem with a
blown DBM in my Omni 546C when I first bought it. I
replaced the defective chip and used my oscilloscope
to adjust the balance.
Concerning the balance, this should not affect you
signal quality. The real problem is the amount of
carrier that will accompany your signal. The other
sideband will be suppressed even more by the filter.
The real issue when you discuss sound quality is the
bandwidth present in your signal. With 2.4KHz, you are
cutting of the upper 300Hz of you audio passband. This
will limit fidelity of signal, but not the
readability.
When you discuss the additional filtering, you should
make sure you transmitter path has the 2.8KHz.
filtering and the other filters should only be in the
receiver path. I know that this is the case in the
older Omni I had.
I hope this information is of some use to you.
