Ralph,
First, test the rig by connecting it to a good dummy load. If it exhibits
the same 40 meter problem, THEN look further into the Omni-C for troubles.
If the problem DOES occur while transmitting into the dummy load, look for
possible bandswitch issues, and/or other components that are used ONLY on 40
meters. Also, test the rig on ALL bands while using the dummy load. Look
for peculiarities on each band.
If the problem does NOT repeat when the dummy load is used, you might have
to inspect your antenna carefully.
