Hello,

I have an idea.

Sherwood Engineering has a well known series of modification kits
that transform the Drake R-4C receiver into what many people think
is the best ham receiver ever.

One of those kits is a audio amp.  It's not really a kit, as it is
a complete wired audio amp on a small pc board.  Sherwood describes
it as "While intended as an R-4C retrofit, this circuit performs so well 
that we recommend it for other communications uses.(Overall gain is 40 dB.)"
