   you may have thought you followed the directions, but they're tricky! I had the same problem the first time I replaced the dial cord in my Argosy. There's a place where you make a couple of loops, which determine just how far the dial moves for a given amount of take-up of the string on the cord. (kind of like a multiple-gang pulley setup on lifting equipment) Sounds like you may have too much or too little. Also, check to see if the little pulleys are turning - they may have seized up - a drop of sewing machine oil on the axle, and turning them until they move freely, can help.
