Hi Shawn,
I just turned my Scout on and indeed there is a spurious signal at 14.332MHz
with no antenna on the radio. The signal is much lower in level than you
indicate in your posting, though. From the sound of it, it sounds like it
may be from the counter. That could be radiating, or perhaps conducting a
signal into a point in the radio. It would take careful measurements and
calculations to determine exactly why this is happening. I guess I'd poke
around with some bypass caps or some insulated shielding to see if any of it
makes a difference. You could also send Ten-Tec an email - they may have
some suggestions.
As for the grounding problem in the car, the first thing that comes to mind
is that the Saturn is half plastic / half metal. That's less shielding from
the antenna on the outside to the radio on the inside. It would be
interesting to try your radio in someone else's car to see if there's a
difference.
