I've noticed an S5 signal at or about 14.332MHz on my
Scout. Is this normal? I had the radio in my car,
car off or on, I can hear it (2000 Saturn SL, no abs).
I'm wondering what it is--I haven't had a chance to
check it out on a home supply yet.
Also: when I put it into the car, it had nothing but
RF feedback on 20m. I tried to put a 2.5' piece of
RG8 braid to a metal ground point in the car; I had an
FT240 core around the antenna coax (two turns) and no
luck. Antenna was both an 8.5' whip and a hamstick
(tried at seperate times). Antenna mount was a 3
magnet magmount. I could probably use a wider piece
of grounding braid--but should it be that touchy to
RF? I mean, I have a friend who runs his Scout on a
cig lighter, and while his antenna was a ball mount
type, he didn't have a RF ground of any--and his radio
worked. Mine appears not to work w/o a 1/4 wave
radial attached directly to the radio.
