[TenTec] Omni V Mic Gain

Hi David. I have used several Ten Tec rigs over the years and have always
had to "find" the best Microphone for the radio. After trying 6 different
microphones with my Corsair II, the best mic was the Shure 444D. That mic
also worked well with the Omni 6 that I once owned. I now own a TT Jupiter
and in order to use it with my HEIL Gold Line microphone I had to use the
Ten Tec model 234 RF Speech Processor. The real problem is that in the WIDE
position the HEIL Goldline mic does not have enough "drive" for the Jupiter
or the Pegasus, and some sort of "boast" is needed. The TT 234 allows you
to taylor the mic gain and the microphone passband to your liking. The 234
was built for the Delta 580 series, but you can still find them on EBAY. It
is well worth the money if you don't have the time, expertise or inclination
to modify or repair your radio. I paid $45 for mine about a year ago and
I'm very pleased with the purchase. The 234 is an outboard box, needs 12
volts and has a two microphone inputs, microphone output and a"gain" and a
"passband" knobs. Size is about 2 3/4" H, 4 1/2" wide and about 6" deep.

Subject: [TenTec] Omni V Mic Gain
I have an Omni V and run a TT 705 mic with it. I have to run the mic gain
with that mic at about 1-2:00 to get proper tx audio out. I also have a
heil hm10/hc5. After getting the cable and connectors set up and the mic
plugged in, I had to run the mic gain wide open to get any, repeat any
decent audio out.
Is there a mod to the TX audio board that will give me more mic gain? I
called TT and they said what I have is all I can get. (called on this
twice-basically same answer). I refuse to accept that until further
convinced.
I guess the thing that keeps sticking in my craw, is that with my older
corsair and omni C, I ran the gain at about 10:00 for proper alc action and
both worked fine with several mics. Those radios had plenty of gain
available.
Any mod ideas would be appreciated. Rather not reinvent the wheel, so to
speak.
