[TenTec] Corsair versus Paragon?

Osten,
Well, I had and enjoyed a Corsair 1 from about 1983 to 1996 when I
traded it into Ten Tec towards a used Paragon 1. I am very happy with
the Paragon!
The only reason I wanted to get rid of the Corsair was that I wanted to
be able to operate at a greater split than the RIT allowed. If I had or
could find the separate VFO, that would have solved the problem. Since I
had a few specific maintenance problems with the Corsair, I left it with
Ten Tec and got the Paragon.
The Paragon 1 is great! It solved my split frequency problem by having
two virtual VFOs and good logic to switch between. It also has memories
and a few nice bells and whistles. Mine did not come with the optional
computer interface (no longer avail from ten tec, anyone have an extra
one?) which would have been nice.
It uses the same filters as the Corsair, so I just moved them over. The
receiver is at least as good, but provides general coverage and AM
reception, and does a very competant job of it IMHO.
In summary I am very happy that I made the transition and expect you
will be too. Although, if you already have the second VFO for the
Corsair, I'm not sure you will find the difference that great for ham
operations.
Yes there was a Paragon 2! It adds AM transmit (not for everyone, but I
would like it), built in FM (instead of an add-on, not too big a deal
for me) but also comes with the computer interface. I would go for one
if it came by! I don't think there were as many of the 2s made, but they
show from time-to-time.
Corsair is great, if you have VFO 2, Paragon is even better!
