[TenTec] Paragon

Thanks to all who wrote with advise on the Paragon alignment and some
other questions I had. I enjoy having the general coverage receive (and
transmit, since mine already had the MARS/CAP mod already made (jumper
cut) hi hi) so it will be ready for the 5 MHz band when it comes! It
will also come in handy for the 2 or 6 meter transverter I may eventually
build. All in all I am pleased with the rig and probably will keep it
around forever as a backup or second rig even if I get a Omni VI or
another Ten Tec rig...though I also may add a few other vintage rigs to
the mix someday...

I may check into that Geihl chip...I think mine has the most current
firmware from TT but have heard good things about the aftermarket chip.
Also, someday when I get ambitious I will do the adjustment to change the
minimum power to QRP levels.

I also wanted to say that Ten-Tec really picked me out a nice one when I
called to purchase this unit - it looked almost new, well, to me anyhow!
Very nice condition, little if any wear, buttons are all perfect, very
sensitive, PBT alignment good and frequencies all right on the money at
least within a few Hz or so if even off that much. I assume they must
have put the latest mods and alignment on it as it everything seems to
work very nicely. Of course I spent the bucks to load it up with all the
optional filters as I have a use for all of them.

The only bone I had to pick with them was that I tried to put an alkaline
on it for the backup battery until I obtained a nicad (the manual I
received with the unit said you could use either alkaline or nicad!),
that was a bad idea as alkalines don't like to be charged - mine got hot
and had just started to leak when I got in there to install the nicad !

After a few weeks use, my receiver would slowly lose all sensitivity if
left alone for awhile - if you moved any of the controls or switched
modes or anything it would come back to life...hmmm... after talking with
TT I kept an eye on it and prepared to check a few things they had me
looking out for. Well it finally did it again and the first thing I did
was reach in the back to move the receive antenna select switch. As you
might have guessed as soon as I barely even touched the switch the
receiver came back to life! A shot of tuner cleaner/lube, exercised the
switch some, and that took care of that! Gee, I hope that's not why
the previous owner traded it in...

Thanks again for everyone's time.
