[TenTec] My Scout's Funny Noises

I have a Scout that has been making some odd noises recently. Right when I
power the rig up, sometimes I hear what sounds like the sidetone/tune tone,
except that the pitch is only around 500 Hz or so, and chordlike, as if there
were several notes being sounded at once (maybe 450-500-550, or the like).

Also, unlike when in "tune" mode, I can hear whatever may be on frequency at the
moment, underneath the tone(s). So I just switch the rig off for two seconds,
then on (sometimes I have to repeat this once or twice more) and everything is
normal again. This only happens about 1 in 8 times on P/U. The rig doesn't seem
to actually transmit when this happens, or at least the internal meter and my
field-strength meter both indicate no RF output.

Other than that, the rig works extremely well (since it is a TT and has been
well treated!), as it has since I bought it new in 1997. Any ideas what is
causing this, whether I should be concerned about it, and how to correct it?
