I received a call at 10:30am from Fire Chief will
Scott that the shelter at Outreach of Love Church had
a communication problem. Their office telephone lines
did not ring in the shelter area, requiring they staff
the lines in the office. Their office staff had been
on duty 36 hours and needed rest. The question was
whether a Radio Operator could be on site and maitain
communications with the Burleson staging area via
Tarrant ARES for several hours for the shelter staff
while the office staff too a needed rest break.

After a couple of calls to get a handle on the problem
I was able to solve it by taking the cordless
telephone from my house and loaning it to the shelter.
With the base unit in the office and the handset and
charger in the shelter, the system eliminated the need
for the office to be staffed and freed up persons to
work in the shelter or rest as needed. This also
eliminated the need for an on site radio operator,
freeing us up to rest and prepare for the next
challenge.
