ARRL JANUARY BOARD MEETING
Congratulations to President Haynie on being elected to his third
two-year term! For the details check the ARRL web site at:
http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2004/01/20/1/?nc=1
One of the actions taken at the January board meeting was to initiate a
new Mentoring Program. Check for details on the ARRL web site at:
http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2004/01/22/2/?nc=1At
Another action was a proposal to be submitted to the FCC for license
restructuring to include a new entry-level license. Check out this
story at: http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2004/01/19/1/?nc=1
These two actions came from information in a recent study that the ARRL
had conducted by an independent firm. One of the more startling things
that we learned from the study was that in the last ten years the bulk
of radio amateurs shifted from the 35-54 age bracket to the 55-74 age
bracket. This along with only 2% of all amateurs being under 18, the
board was sent a strong message that something had to be done.
On a more personal note, I have been the chairman of the Membership
Services Committee this last year. A board action combined the
Membership Services Committee with the Volunteer Resources Committee
which formed a new committee called the Programs and Services Committee.
I would have been out of a job had President Haynie not appointed me to
chair the Administration and Finance Committee. This will be a real
challenge as we continue to maintain a fiscally sound ARRL.
