Howdy!

It's here! At this time we have 132 registered attendees.  The workshop will
be held on Saturday, September 6, at the Conference Center at the University
of Texas at Dallas.  The workshop will begin at 9am and will run until 6pm,
with a break for lunch.  This is a totally free event sponsored by the Comet
Amateur Radio Club and the Plano Amateur Radio Klub. Up to date info will be
available on www.n5oom.org.  

The University of Texas at Dallas is in Richardson, TX.  Directions to the

EVENT FREQUENCIES

Talk-in will be available on the PARK repeater, 147.18+, pl 107.2.  Local
simplex will be on 147.56, alternate 147.54.


PARKING

As is typical with Universities, parking is usually strictly controlled.
However, we're told parking will be available in the green lots.  There is a
limited amount of visitor parking to the immediate west of the Conference
Center, and student parking across the street to south of the Conference
Center (next to the Activity Center). 


LUNCH

A lunch break will occur from 1pm to 2pm.  Food will not be served at the
conference center, but there are a large number of nearby restaurants.  A
list of restauraunts and a map to tne nearer ones will be available at the
event.  A few vending machines are located at the site.


WHAT TO BRING

Note taking supplies - Because this is a free event, there's no guarantee
that we will have paper copies of notes.  Therefore, it will be beneficial
for you to download copies of the presentations you want to attend.  Copies
of all available presentations are available at
http://www.n5oom.org/2003_nt_aprs_workshop/schedule.htm.  In addition,
please bring you own paper, pens and pencils.  

Your APRS trackers - An APRS tracker "show and tell" will be held from 12:15
to 1:00.  If you have APRS hardware you'd like to show off, please bring it!
Note - security will not be available, so be prepared to secure your
hardware when it is not being shown.

Your non-functional APRS equipment - Local APRS experts will be available
during the event to troubleshoot any APRS equipment problems you might have.

EVENT FEATURES

18 Presentations - We have 18 presentations on a number of APRS hardware,
software and operating practice.  You'll find something you'll be able to
use!

APRS Tracker Show & Tell - If you have APRS hardware you'd like to show off,
please bring it!

APRS for Public Service Events Panel - This panel will discuss the APRS
experiences had by local emergency coordinators and public service event net
controllers.

APRS Software - Several APRS software vendors are offering price breaks for
software registered during this event, thanks to Ken N5EQT.  Also, Ken has
obtained a few copies as door prizes!  We'll have a station standing by to
do these registrations at the Registration Desk if you are interested in
purchasing any software.

TinyTraks - We'll also have a few TinyTrak units available for sale, thanks
to Tony W5ADC!

Open Workshop - We will have an open workshop open for attendees to bring in
their APRS equipment to be worked on by local experts.  Attendees needing
this service should check in with the registration desk to get a slot.

If you are totally new to APRS, you may wish to plan on attending the "APRS
for Public Service Events" and "APRS in North Texas" presentations.  Also,
you may want to download the presentations from

any questions handy.


VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you are willing to volunteer some time during the workshop, please stop
