Yea, I hadn't considered the fact that the batteries could have become
shorted. It'll work fine without the batteries, so take the battery
pack off and see if that doesn't cure the problem, (heating up without
transmitting that is).

If it's getting hot without transmitting, by just being plugged into the
power supply, yes, I would agree with you Paul, I'd say there's a short
somewhere, and it very well could be in the battery pack. I've never
seen one do that but that's not to say it couldn't happen.

AND, a lot of other people have had a lot more experience with HT's than
I have. My only experience is with owning and operating MY HTX-202 for a
number of years... and a couple of other HT's as well, but I've dealt
plenty of abuse to mine and even killed it once or twice which is not
easy, they're very durable radios. (Actually, I have two HTX-202's right
now.)

I don't [personally] like to run the HTX-202 without the battery pack
because of the fact that it does heat up so much when you do transmit,
(on high power), and because of that, it needs all the heat sink it can
get, and the battery pack helps some too, [believe it or not]. All it
really has for a heat sink is the thick metal back and the belt clip and
what ever else is attached to it. (That is of course providing that
whatever's attached to it is not contributing to the overheating
problem.)

I wonder.... if that power supply is okay? I wonder if it's not
generating MORE than 13.5v. Could that cause overheating? ....just
brainstorming here...
