Hi to all swan owners !
I now have my first swan (new about the time I graduated high school ! ) =
and am new to these old radios. My radio is a early 500c. I have =
cleaned up the radio, cleaned all the bandswitch contacts, checked the =
tubes, replaced the power supply caps/diodes and gave the cabinet a nice =
new coat of paint. The radio now looks great, and is beginning to work. =
(it was fairly dead on arrival) I have not tried transmitting yet. On =
receive, its pretty drifty for the first 15 min. or so, then starts to =
settle down. Audio is ok but not great at first. The radio is =
reasonably stable after 1 hour. Problem is, after it warms up good (one =
hr.) the audio starts to become nasal (narrow) and distorted. I have =
also noticed that it really really generates a lot of heat (seems like a =
lot more than my tr4c), so a fan system will be in order. Does anyone =
have an idea of where I should start troubleshooting the problem? Do I =
need to do a complete alignment? Also are there other problems common =
to the 500c that I should look for? I have read a lot of info on the =
net that I could find, but not much troubleshooting info out there. I =
have also acquired a 270b that will be my next project, but the 500 is =
my test bed so to speak. Thanks,
David Drake , WD9cmd, Indiana
