Hi Mike, they send both clear text and coded messages. The clear messages
are mostly forecasts while the coded messages are mostly observations.
The coded messages are not secret but codes are shorter than the complete
texts.

Hugh Stegman jotted the codes down but you can also buy books that has all

Are the RTTY weather stations well known for sending short 5 figure groups?
I've got a German weather station on 10100.8 now (about 0835z) that's
sending short 5 figure group messages.
It's doing 50/450 RTTY and I'm receiving it unusually clearly up here in AK.
I've heard this station before sending weather info, but this is the first
time I've seen them send anything that appeared encoded.
