I'm a radio amateur so I have been using my Kenwood TS-440 and/or TS-850
ham transceivers which have general-coverage receive capability from about
100 kHz to 30 MHz.
You would probably want a general-coverage receiver if you don't want to
spend the money on a transceiver (also transmits). The TS-440's have been
going used for around $300-500 and the TS-850 for $750-1000. That is
probably a bit expensive if all you want to do is receive, but the TS-850
is known to have one of the best receivers in any commercially-made piece
of equipment to date.

What kind of equipment are you folks using and where can you get it? I'm in the newbee stage and am doing my best to learn the ropes. Anyhelp that you folks could provide would be greatly appreciated.
