Digital can be used if working local point to point like an embassy to
a safe house. But in many cases spies are usually on foot or squatting
some place thousands of miles from home and wanting to keep a low
profile by not putting up huge antennas and lugging around laptops or
PCs. Here in Los Angeles which is home to many Cuban and Korean spies,
its outright RF heaven. I can walk around outside with my Kenwood
TH-F6a or my Alinco DJ-X10 and listen to M8 in Cuba and the DPR of
Korea. With a portable radio attached to the belt, a pair of walkman
style headphones on the head and a pad of paper in hand, it would look
as though someone is just listening to music and doodling when they
could easily be writing down their next objective.
