Yup.  There are several systems for doing this.  M8 is using one of them.

Further evidence is M8's most common failure mode, which is simply for the
circuit to develop a bad AC hum.  This results in the dits and dahs also
being pulsed on-off 60 times a second, and a signal something like 20 kHz
wide.

At least one of R. Havana's transmitters has SSB capability.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
