Hi to everyone on the net, thank you for letting us aboard.
We (Pene and Dave) are out here "sort of retired". Say that because it is
harder work now than work was!
We are on the west Coast of Ireland at almost 9 degrees West, deep in the
bogland of County Mayo, so good earthing. About 2600 nautical miles from
the center of the Brooklyn Bridge, around 4300 sea miles from Santa Clara.
Nearest hamlet Charlestown is far enough away (8000 yards) we have almost
zero light pollution at night. Wind and foxes are all you hear, and stars
is what you see on a clear night. As far from "civilization" as you need to
go still have hot water, flushing loos and land-line phones. ASDA is 150
mile round trip.
We have here a mixed HF station, pride of place is our Collins KWM-2A,
with an Icom 7700 Marine SSB set used for daily rag chewing on 60 meters
with Oppo Cliff in County Fermanagh 60 miles North. And across to
Nottingham (of Robin Hood fame). Currently can just make it into
Dover/Folkstone at 460 statute miles on 5400.00 Kc/s with 100 watts.
Also have Yaesu FT-901DM, and Kenwood TS-440TS and a UK/PRC319, SF set for
hill top hopping (but only when the sun shines hi!).
Main antenna is a 20% offset longwire, folded into a U to fit the site with
house inside the two legs.
And then there are the cats! Wibbo and Mouse, spend time keeping the
rodent population at bay or keeping seats in the shack warm.
73s,
Pene and Dave
