Jim-
The ARRL is steering a deliberate course, attempting to attract newer
(read: younger) hams into our ranks. As a result, construction articles
have all but vanished. In their place are articles pertaining to software
and often involving connecting to the internet. In my book, that misses
the heart of ham radio. I'd had a number of articles published in QST over
the years, but no longer.
I'm an 'Old ham', My favorite activity is participation in the SOTA
(Summits on the Air) program, both from home and on mountaintops. CW, of
course! I'm usually using rigs I designed.
*That alone makes me an Old ham. *
