Well - the batsman may never bowl and the bowler may never bat, but the batsman may be on the bowling side by being out and the bowler may be on the batting side by being in. The fielders and bowler will shout "owzat" if they think they have the batsman out. A decision is then made by the umpire as to whether the batsman is out or in.
It's easy really.
