In my early radio days the Navy still had a few RAK and RAL TRF (Tuned R F) 
regenerative receivers.

Great sensitivity, but were replaced with RBA, RBB, RBC series to eliminate 
the regenerative-autodyne detector in an effort to keep the leakage 
radiation on the antenna to a very low level that prevented enemy direction 
finding equipment from determining the location of the receiver.
