Well,it looks like the search is back on then. That one dashed hope of the possible location of an SOC version of a Woof Hong was exciting though.. Wasn't it?,.
Let's all attempt in our SOC way to find a true S.O.C. Symbol that would truly reflect our umm Abilities? ( or should that be, IN abilities?)
Sort of like pushing a chain up a hill? Maybe a gold chain? or gilded LEAD to more accurately reflect our charter.
Just Sayin..

Subject: Re: [SOC] Found in the shack ---what is it??
Thanks for the feedback, as it turns out the coil; is part of a St. Louis
ertical antenna which I bought quite a few years ago. In true SOC fashion,
should report that I also have a "Sunny Day SD-20" fiberglass fishing pole
n the corner of the shack (I'm not a fisherman). It seems that the pole is
sed to hold the radiating portion of the vertical...so that's another
ystery solved.
OK, the coils and the fishing pole go in a prominent corner of the shack
hile I contemplate building it for a few more years (ahhh, maybe I'll give
t a try).
Thanks to all for your help

ubject: [SOC] Found in the shack ---what is it??
Hi all,
I'm sure this will quakify as a SOC question, so here goes:
I was looking around the shack (no I definately was NOT cleaning it!) and
I came across something I'm sure I bought several years ago but I can't
seem to figure out what it is.
I found two pieces (there may have been more peices but I found 2) of
what looks like a loading coil for an antenna and a feedpoint.
The loading coil is about 12 to 14 inches long and wound around 2 inch
diameter PVC pipe. It has spike coming out of one end that makes me think
it probably goes into the ground and is the bottom part of a verticle
antenna. This "loading coil" also has a brass rod mounting along the side
of the coil which moves up and down making contact at various points on
the coil (thereby making it adjustable).
The other part is about six inches long and made from 1 3/4 inch PVC
pipe. this has contacts to apparently connect to the loading coil as well
as a BNC connector to go to the tranceiver.
That's what I found...assuming this is part of a verticle antenna, I
didn't find anything that might be used for the radiating portion.
I always thought this thing was the makings of a PAC12 antenna, but I
can't find any directions online that include these parts. I did find
PAC12 directions on the NJQRP sight but their antenna seems different than
what I have here.
Anyway, if you have any ideas what these two things are, I'd appreciate
hearing from you. I can probably take a picure of them and e-mail it to
you, if that would help.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Tom
