Even better check out a few things I found in the FAQ and Article of
Incorporation.
Article II - Purpose
2.1 The corporation is organized exclusively for holding title to property
within the meaning of Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(7). The purpose
of the Club is to bring together Amateur Radio operators who enjoy
communicating by Morse Code (CW); to support operating and social activities
for members, other Amateurs and their families and friends; to encourage the
use of CW in Amateur Radio communications; to promote goodwill among
Amateurs throughout the world; and to foster the education of young people
and others in matters related to Amateur Radio.
Sounds pretty good. Hams and their families have fun time with CW.
Getting young people involved. Sounds good as well.
5. Why is the admittance bar set at 25 wpm?
We want members who have a serious commitment to CW. One way to measure this
is by competence. 25 WPM doesn't represent an especially high level of
skill, but it's still a nontrivial accomplishment.
6. Are you telling me that unless I can send and receive 25 wpm, I'm not as
strongly committed to the goal of preserving the art of Morse code as those
who can?
No. It just means that you need to practice a bit before applying for
membership.
7. Who decides if I'm qualified? Is there a test?
That's up to your sponsors.
25WPM???? Seriously? You want to involve Hams and their families, even the
kiddos, but you set a level that will take some people years to obtain.
Sounds exactly like the FOC, except doesn't someone have to die in order for
a new member to be accepted? If that is true then I guess technically you
could die waiting to become a member of FOC. Well at least nobody has to
die to get into the CWop club.
I can do 25wpm on a good day with the wind at my back and a six pack in me.
Guess I am neither FOC or CWop material. Good, I like it that way.
HNY to all.
