Well....... actually the BRITISH (legal) definition of a "militia" back when
the US Constitution was written was NOT limited to strictly military units.
IN FACT it was a global term that included the "general, specific, and
select" militias.

AND that is **STILL** the definition according to US Code. i.e. The "general
militia" refers to ALL able bodied males of age (citizens) and was different
from select militias (what we now call guardsmen/or national guard) as well
as quite different from the standing army. This was further enacted as such
in the early 1790's as one of the first pieces of business of the newly
minted congress. It has NEVER been repealed or overridden. And LAST YEAR the
US Supreme Court affirmed these specifics as well in their ruling on
personal self-defense use of handguns (and other firearms) INCLUDING
ownership.

YES, this is VERY SOC to NOT look this stuff up BEFORE you spout off !!
