[SOC] MFJ-249B SWR Analayzer question

I haven't had the opportunity to use my SWR analyzer for well over a year, 
perhaps 2 and I  turned it on today ( the batteries had been removed after 
the last use and I put 10 fresh AA cells in today).

When I turned it on the LED screen read that the supply voltage was OK but I 
got 0.000 Mhz as the frequency reading, no matter what I did.

I actually have a Vectronics Model VEC-584B SWR analyzer but I'm pretty sure 
its the same as the MFJ-249B.

If anyone is familiar with this unit, could tell me if I'm missing something 
or otherwise point me in the right direction to get a reading.
