Thanks to everyone.

I've just been watching a horrible documentary on the History Channel. "The Last
Day of World War 1"

I had never heard the story before. After four bloody years of war, stupid
gernerals, knowing the armistice had been signed at 5:00 a.m. to come into
effect at 11:00 a.m. continued to send men into battle in a feverish manner
until the very last minute.

Artillery fired none stop.

The last American to die did so at 10:59 a.m.

There were more casualties between 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. than there were on
6th June, 1944.

Literally cold blooded murder. What an absolute disgrace.

We had a Field Marshall in WW11 who wasted Australian [and American] lives in
New Guinea throughout 1945. Why? The Japanese had nowhere to go, no means of
re-supply and posed no threat to anyone. They would have literally died on the
vine. Thousands of young lives sacrificed for the vanity of an old lying,
thieving fool.

No wonder my father hated him with a passion and little wonder he became a
public disgrace after the war.
