Hi Bill and All,

WoW, a first class antenna subject on the SOC reflector!

Is that SOC legal?

Yes, I have a 40 and a 160 horizontal loop up fed with ladder line
and of course a tuner takes care of the bandswitching. If you have
the real estate the 160 meter is what I would consider the ideal loop
if you like working the top band on NVIS and the other bands
are pleasure performances from locals to DX. The feed point for
the 160 is about 45 feet from the corner (4 sided loop). This
seems to keep down the rhombic effect on the higher bands.
Trees are used for supports and both loops are approximately
25 ~ 30 feet high. Both loops have their own feedlines and the
loops are seperated about 500 feet apart. Neither have a
counterpoise/reflector but I use one occasionally on the 40 meter
loop when running very low power. You can tune the counterpoise
loop with a air variable cap for the specific freq. in use. Yes, the
tuning is tricky for the first few times then it is 'old hat'! You don't
have to bury the counterpoise but it is more lawnmower friendly
that way.

To be really SOC, use your neighbor's house roof tops for the
supports........... :-)
