Since I am an old, retired wire and cable guy, and we had facilities on
both sides of the pond, I had to put up with translating Brit to Yank
for many years. For characteristic impedance (Zo), we would say zee-oh
or zee-sub-oh, but the brits called it zed-nought. Similarly, for
cables, components were cores, shields were screens, and jackets were
sheaths. One of the more obscure ones was the use of loom for a wire
harness. Oh well, I guess it goes well with bonnets and boots, and I
am not referring to hats and wellies.
Cheers,
