One of my absolute favorite SCI-FI authors used Zed for Zee in his
books. He hailed from Butler, MO, about an hour south of my QTH, and
many of his stories were situated in the Kansas City area. His most
famous character grew up in a house about 1 1/2 miles from the house in
which I grew up.

A lot of Brit-talk has changed since I left there in 1968.
I've recently heard the expression "half eight" meaning 8:30,
which was never in use during my time there. In German, 'half
eight' means halfway from 7 to 8 and thus 7:30 (unless that
has changed as well...).
Oh well, the Brits made the Ws use Zed for Zee on the air,
at least.
