Jim,

What you are talking about is different words to describe an object and there
are lots of examples of that, there are also expressions which mean the opposite
thing on different sides of the Atlantic.

I don't have a problem with mail and post per say, my puzzle is why the words
came to be adopted almost in spite of the organisations that run them.
