I always liked this quote from old Bertrand, except I prefer to turn it
around...

...the cocksure are probably stupid, and those full of doubt are likely to
be intelligent.

Russell was pretty cocksure about many things, y'know.  For that matter,
there are centrists who are cocksure and extremists who aren't.
