[SOC] Wal Mart - Continued

I used to run an Argonaut on 75 phone. One winter evening, I ran across
3 good ol' boys bragging about their 3 element yagis and California
Kilowatts. Their signals were about 40 over S9 and I gave them a call.
I got reports of 59 + 10 from the whole crew, 5 of them. Then I told
them I was running an Argonaut into a G5RV and suddenly they couldn't
hear me.

Hey, me too. The fastest I ever copied in my life was 16 (coded
groups),
and when I went to see the RI to take the 13 WPM test back in the days
when
you had to have solid copy one minute out of five, I copied 66
characters
in a row and then totally fell apart.=20

So when I operate CW, it's around 10 wpm, and that's about it. It's
easy
to tell when I'm on the air... just listen for the guy who keeps sending
"QRS."  =20

I often used to operate SSB with a barefoor Argonaut. Isn't it amazing
how
a 5x9 report will go down the drain so many times after the other end of
the line finds out there's only about two watts pumping that way? Lots
of
that going around. =20

To me, SOC is quite an achievement. I'm lucky to rate so high.
